These privately owned attractive gites are in the peaceful rural hamlet
of Chez Baillargeon, near to the village of Londigny, in the heart
of the Charentaise countryside in South West France.
This area of France abounds in historic sites and buildings notably
rich in Romanesque architecture. Then there are the many colourful local
markets to explore with speciality foods and wines to sample. We can advise
you about local restaurants or you may prefer to enjoy your purchases, with
a sample of our organic home-grown vegetables, “chez-vous”. An excellent
choice of major supermarkets can be found within 15 minutes drive, with
a boulangerie and bar/restaurant a little closer to your gite.
For your holiday in France choose from 3 lovely very reasonably priced
holiday homes newly converted to very high standards yet retaining as many
of the original features as possible. You will be very welcome in this pretty
French hamlet with only four other dwellings where you can relax and enjoy
typical Charentaise country living close to the fairytale castle of Londigny.
LOCATION
The three gites are found in the grounds of an old farmhouse, surrounded
by open countryside, with pleasant views to the Chateau of Londigny.
Enjoy your own outdoor sitting and dining areas with barbecues. On a practical
note there is a fully equipped laundry with washer, dryer and ironing
facilities and of course all bed linen and towels are provided.
This is a beautiful area of South West France for a relaxing quiet holiday
enjoying French country living yet the buzz of café life is not too far away.
Near to your Charente holiday cottage there are lakes with beaches in Villefagnan
and Sauze-Vaussais and the well-known leisure area of Le Rejallant in Ruffec
with a restaurant, and swimming and canoeing on the quiet River Charente. We
are equidistant from the ancient cities of Poitiers and Angouleme with their
winding cobbled streets and lots of restaurants and bistros to sample. The historic
and chic seaside city of La Rochelle is about 90 minutes drive with the famous
beaches of Royan a similar distance. We can tell you about other lovely beaches
mainly known only to the French – after all this area is said to have one of
the highest sunshine records in France. Don't forget the theme park of Futuroscope
(Poitiers), Puy du Fou with it's medieval spectacles, and the wonderful zoos
at the Vallee des Singes and La Palmyre. Another way to enjoy the weather
is to slowly wind your way by boat along the lovely canals of the Marais Poitevin
(the Green Venice of France) with it's wealth of plant and wildlife. There
are many local fetes to choose from throughout the summer like the International
Festival of Dance and Music held each August in Confolens where street theatre
abounds.
